Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio response to C0VID-19

As the CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio, I wanted to personally reach out to you and provide an update on the actions taken to help prevent the spread of the virus and support the health and well- being of our community.

This week, Governor Mike DeWine addressed the state on the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and outlined a series of significant measures to minimize the spread of the disease. In his remarks, it was recommended canceling in-person college classes and banning spectators from high school, college, and professional indoor sporting events and concerts.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio support any actions that ensure the safety of our community. We believe it is our role and responsibility during this time to prioritize the well-being of all community members while also playing a constructive role in supporting local officials and government leaders as they work to contain the virus.

Below are some of the steps the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio is implementing effective Thursday, March 12, 2020:

  • Events resulting in 30 or more guests and participants will be postponed until further notice. The Governor and public health officials have indicated that large gatherings (defined by 100 or more participants and guests) increase the chance of transmission.
  • All Employee travel for professional training development is on hold and reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • We ask that anyone who is ill or exhibiting symptoms not come to the offices of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio.
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio has modified its cleaning practices in our offices in response to this pandemic. Staff members continue to focus on best practice sanitizing methods as a priority.

Through the lens of safety first, we will continue to make decisions with vigilance and courage informed by the latest information provided by federal, state, and local government officials and guided by Our Mission and Values.

I want to also thank you for supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio and our mission to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

Regards,
Dr. Marvin Whitfield
President/CEO
